The Story:

A Swedish Gustavian period petite sofa bench from the 18th century, newly upholstered in linen. The back, arms, and seat frame are adorned with a carved egg and dart pattern. There are carved rosettes at each corner posts and the tapered and fluted legs feature fluted, round caps with carved acanthus leaves. This bench would be beautiful at the end of a bed or in a hall, and would also make a wonderful banquette for a breakfast room.

The Gustavian style, named after King Gustav III of Sweden, is a restrained interpretation of the French Louis XV and Louis XVI style. King Gustav III was enamored with the neoclassical style and therefore created his own interpretation for Sweden.
