The Story:

French Baroque tapestry fragment depicting a scene from Greek mythology, Poseidon and Amphitrite, circa 1690. Attributed to Isaac Moillon, Paris (1614-1673). Isaac Moillon was one of Louis XIV’s painters and produced a number of cartoons for the tapestry industry in Aubusson, which was under Royal patronage. There is natural wear, yet, despite its age, this beautiful tapestry is still quite vibrant, especially the blue tones.
