A very rare set of six 18th century Swedish dining chairs from the early Gustavian period in original paint with old leather slip seats. Original metal brackets designed to protect the delicate fret work of the seat backs. There is an old repair to one of the leather seats. An exquisite set of chairs – a Maison & Co. favorite. Circa 1780. The Gustavian style, named after King Gustav III of Sweden, is a restrained interpretation of the French Louis XV and Louis XVI style. King Gustav III was enamored with the neoclassical style and therefore created his own interpretation for Sweden.
