Swedish Gustavian Period Bench, 19th Century Antique

THE STORY:

A richly carved 19th century Swedish painted bench from the Gustavian period with carved guilloche pattern on the seat frame and carved rosettes above fluted, round caps, ending in tapered and fluted legs.  Circa 1810.

The Gustavian style, named after King Gustav III of Sweden, is a restrained interpretation of the French Louis XV and Louis XVI style. King Gustav III was enamored with the neoclassical style and therefore created his own interpretation for Sweden.
