A beautiful neoclassical pair of Swedish Gustavian style painted chests with hand-painted marbleized tops and tapered legs. Each chest has three drawers, brass hardware and original locks. The corner posts are canted and fluted with carved rosettes at the top. Gustavian at its best.
The Gustavian style, named after King Gustav III of Sweden, is a restrained interpretation of the French Louis XV and Louis XVI style. King Gustav III was enamored with the neoclassical style and therefore created his own interpretation for Sweden.
